Court Martial - Sangeeth Sivan, director Ek - The Power of One

Ek - The Power of One starring Nana Patekar and Bobby Deol has released and had left it’s director Sangeeth Sivan surprised. Reason? He isn’t able to comprehend the backlash coming the way of his film when the fact is that it is a remake of a super successful Telugu film Atahdu [starring Mahesh Babu in the lead] which brought in masses by thousands in theaters when released four years back. Though thousands may not have thronged his Ek - The Power of One, Sangeeth is still delighted to see a reasonably good response for this action flick which has been released after a delay of two years.

‘I miss those life-changing lyrics!’ - A R Rahman

He has proved that music may have languages but not boundaries. Here’s the reticent A.R.Rahman, who has left no award unturned in the last six months, in a midnight chat from Chennai that brims with rare candour

For two years in succession, you have clinched both the Best Music and Best Background Music Screen trophies. What do you have to say about this unique achievement?
I always feel that nothing can be planned, and sometimes things just fall into place! Just a few years ago, a lot of things seemed to be going off-track. Mani Ratnam’s Lajjo, Shyam Benegal’s Chamki and Krishna Shah’s Baiju and one or two other musicals were wonderful subjects that inspired me then - and none of them even took off! On the other hand, Jaane Tu…Ya Jaane Na that got me your Best Music trophy this year was almost shelved - till Aamir Khan took over its production. Last year, a lot of my films came all together - Jaane Tu…, Jodhaa Akbar, Yuvvraaj, the music of Ada, Ghajini and then Slumdog Millionaire.
So I have stopped expecting anything in life. If good things happen, it’s okay, but if they don’t, at least you are not frustrated! (Laughs).

Vidhu Vinod Chopra had then planned the film with Shah Rukh in mind but due to date hassles Shah Rukh had refused to do the film and later Boman also had no keen interest. “But much later when Vinod Chopra decided to do the film with Sanjay Dutt, he approached me to play the key role in the film and that time I could not refuse him.” reveals Boman.

Despite having done 50 films in bollywood actor Boman Irani feels that he is still struggling to get the right kind of roles. Having been appreciated for his roles in Kholsa Ka Ghosla or Munnabhai series the actor says that he became an actor by fluke. “I never intended to be an actor on the silver screen. I have stage background. I was often offered roles but some how or the other I would just refuse them. I was offered Lagaan, Gaddar and other films too earlier then Ashutosh Gowarikar offered me roles in T.V.Serials too. But nothing allured me” he says.
