‘I miss those life-changing lyrics!’ - A R Rahman

He has proved that music may have languages but not boundaries. Here’s the reticent A.R.Rahman, who has left no award unturned in the last six months, in a midnight chat from Chennai that brims with rare candour

For two years in succession, you have clinched both the Best Music and Best Background Music Screen trophies. What do you have to say about this unique achievement?
I always feel that nothing can be planned, and sometimes things just fall into place! Just a few years ago, a lot of things seemed to be going off-track. Mani Ratnam’s Lajjo, Shyam Benegal’s Chamki and Krishna Shah’s Baiju and one or two other musicals were wonderful subjects that inspired me then - and none of them even took off! On the other hand, Jaane Tu…Ya Jaane Na that got me your Best Music trophy this year was almost shelved - till Aamir Khan took over its production. Last year, a lot of my films came all together - Jaane Tu…, Jodhaa Akbar, Yuvvraaj, the music of Ada, Ghajini and then Slumdog Millionaire.
So I have stopped expecting anything in life. If good things happen, it’s okay, but if they don’t, at least you are not frustrated! (Laughs).

She’s basking in well-deserved success after Ghajini. In between shooting a song for London Dreams and doing commercials, Asin, looking fresh as a daisy in casual tee and trousers, opens up in an exclusive chat

How is life post-Ghajini? You are flooded with endorsements now.
Life is pretty much the same. As for endorsements, I have been doing ads since the age of 14. So far, I have done around 50 ads including Parachute, BPL Mobile, Mirinda and Colgate. Most of the commercials you are seeing now have been signed much before Ghajini happened.

"Even after a decade, I am considered a newcomer" - Madhavan

Madhavan has been around for close to a decade and has been slowly but steadily making his presence felt in Bollywood. However, one question that he continues to answer is around his presence in solo lead films. Not that he minds answering that because he believes that even after a decade, he is still considered a newcomer.

Release of 13B has made at least one man really happy - Madhavan. While the film has been a super hit in its Tamil version down South, even the Hindi version hasn’t done bad and has turned out to be the highest grosser for a Madhavan solo.

Big Stars missing at the Fast and Furious 4 premiere

Vin Diesel and Paul Walker starrer Fast and Furious 4 premiere was held at Fame BIG cinemas at Andheri, Mumbai on Thursday April 2nd late evening. While the 4th installment in the popular action thriller series got back Vin Diesel to star in the film, many big Bollywood names preferred to give the premiere a miss. What one saw were the usual premiere attending TV stars and not so popular Bollywood stars also comprising mostly of out of work or hardly any work actors.

We saw TV couple Tanaaz and Shahrukh Irani in colour coordinated white tops with the later wearing an out of vogue hair band. Yash Tonk came in wearing a body hugging T-shirt showcasing his well sculpted physique. It was also a reunion of sorts for Fear Factor – Khatron Ke Khiladi season one participants Meghana Naidu, Dippanita Sharma and winner of the show Nethra Raghuraman. But they hardly even interacted with each other. Surprise guest star of the evening was Bigg Boss season one winner Rahul Roy who too seemed to be enjoying his own company. Udita Goswami’s entry created a small flutter amongst the photographers and channel crews as she was the first and only proper Bollywood actress to arrive. Later came in Vinay Pathak with his trademark bag and went in the cinema hall fully stocked with a huge popcorn box and a big cola glass. Also seen was Garam Masala actress Daisy Bopanna. Narayani Shastri made a solo entry, while popular TV couple Aamir and Sanjeeda Shaikh came together as usual.
