Will Ghajini’s playing time of 3 hours be pruned for multiplex purposes?

Download Ghajini wallpapers

The big Christmas Release Ghajini has a longer story to tell than is considered healthy for the multiplexes. The film’s playing time of 3 hours makes it the second-longest film of 2008 after Ashutosh Gowarikar’s Jodhaa Akbar.

And didn’t that click? “Precisely,” avers producers Madhu Mantena who also co-produced the superhit Tamil version of Ghajini with Allu Arvind. “It’s not the length. It’s the performance. You could have a really boring two-hour film. On the other hand, you could’ve a really gripping film that’s three hours long.”

Neetu Kapoor returns to the silver screen with hubby Rishi Kapoor

Her husband Rishi Kapoor has been a regular with Yash Raj Films. And he’s made quite an impression playing middle aged characters with his performances in Fanaa and Hum Tum. But nobody was successful in getting Neetu Kapoor to move out of the house and enter the studios again. Karan Johar had offered her the role of Preity Zinta’s mother in Kal Ho Naa Ho, (eventually played by Jaya Bachchan) but Neetu Kapoor turned it down as she was busy shaping son Ranbir’s career. Now with Ranbir’s career having taken off in a big way, Neetu Kapoor has finally returned to films. But if you thought she will be working with the Chopras or with Karan Johar you thought wrong.

Neetu Kapoor and her husband Rishi Kapoor will be seen together in a film to be produced by Planman Motion Pictures. After several weeks of persuasion, Neetu agreed as she loved the story of the film. The film apparently is the story of two middle-aged couples. After Neetu Kapoor agreed to the project, the producers are desperately hunting for the second couple. But getting Neetu to sign on the dotted line was a major achievement for Planman Motion Pictures. Let’s hope Neetu’s comeback venture is a bigger hit than her son’s debut film Saawariya.

So what’s the price of the next biggie to hit the screens this year? I’m talking of GHAJINI. There’s tremendous speculation about the price of the film, with 75, 80 and 90 crores being quoted by various sections of the media. The truth is something else.

Quiz GHAJINI producer Madhu Mantena about it and he adds promptly, “The India theatrical business has been sold for Rs. 40 cr. [to Studio 18], while the Overseas rights [sold to Big Pictures] has fetched Rs. 10 cr.” Of course, the Satellite rights [sold for Rs. 20 cr. to Studio 18], Home Video [not sold yet] and Audio rights [sold to T-Series] have also fetched handsome amounts.

Roshan Abbas to direct a film for SRK’s Red Chillies Entertainment

Roshan Abbas is a name that has been synonymous with TV shows / anchoring live events/ theatre and radio for almost a decade now. After having dabbled (successfully) in various communicative media, the versatile Roshan is now all set to take the big leap. Roshan Abbas would be directing his maiden film early next year and if the buzz is to be believed, the project is backed by none other than SRK’s Red Chillies Entertainment.

Bollywood.tv spoke to the man with the golden voice - Roshan Abbas - to get some more dope on this latest development, “Yes, it’s true that I am directing my first film in 2009. Not many know, but I finished my Masters in Filmmaking way back from Delhi. After that it just so happened that because I was doing a lot of theatre and stage shows, I ended up becoming an anchor. In 1999, I had written and directed a play called ‘Graffiti’ about life at high school. The play was a runaway success with great music and excellent choreography by Shiamak Davar. However, during that time, it was very difficult for me to carry the play to different cities considering the big canvas that it had. Later in the year 2003, I came up with the idea of making a film on the lines of the play ‘Graffiti’ and along with my co-writer Ranjit Raina developed the screenplay for the film. In between, I got busy with my company ‘Encompass’ and a lot of other stuff. However earlier this year, I suddenly seemed to have some time for myself after divesting 50% stake of my company. That’s when I decided that I should start working on my film. As a radio person, you have spoken to a city; as a TV guy you have spoken to a country but ultimately the biggest canvas that you look for as a communicator is cinema and that’s how I decided to go ahead with this film.”

For all those who believe in ‘evil eye’ (buri nazar), here’s a piece of news that will re-affirm your belief in the same. Shilpa Shetty aka ‘Miss Long legs’ was recently in the news for reasons more than one (the ‘Big Brother’ controversy included). But what really took the cake was her power-packed yoga DVD that she launched amidst massive fanfare, and needless to say that her never-ending legs really held the eyeballs of the viewers intact.

Now the sad news is that, it is these legs that have got hurt. The reason? Well, it was all thanks to a freak accident that Miss Shetty speaks about, in her famous blog. She says, “The whole of last week just flew experiencing this near war situation in Mumbai, the place I was born in and unconditionally love. In all this chaos, I completely forgot that I hurt my foot bad enough to get 15 stitches, in a freak accident, thanks to my big sunglasses and nose in the air; I overlooked a sharp metal piece that slit my foot, thankfully not below but over the foot!”

Akbar Khan is hunting for an actress to play a single mom in his next

After his marathon epic Taj Mahal, Akbar Khan is now planning to start a quickie entitled Taxi Driver.

Says Khan who gave Smita Patil a seductively psychotic role in Haadsa four decades ago, “It’s the story of a single mother with a ten-year old kid…sends out a great message against terrorism. It’s a subject that’s been close to my heart.”

Apparently, Akbar Khan has been having trouble getting the top leading ladies for the role. Lara Dutta was a top contender for the part. But she’s already playing a mother to a growing son on Shah Rukh Khan’s very special request in Priyadarshan’s Billoo Barber.

Rohan Sippy certainly has a lot happening for him. As a co-producer of Chandni Chowk To China and someone who has contributed from the scratch till the execution of this biggie with writer Sridhar Raghavan and director Nikhil Advani, he has been waiting with a bated breath to see the kind of response that this film generates. His other production, The President Is Coming would eventually be coming on 9th January, just a week before Chandni Chowk To China and in the interim he is counting days, as the 16th January release of the Akshay Kumar starrer is just 30 days away.

Meanwhile, he is getting groundwork in place for his Abhishek Bachchan film that will go on floors in April 2009. What’s the title of the film? “Well, sometimes the most difficult part about writing a film is coming up with that elusive title. So yes, as you would have guessed it by now, we don’t have any title yet. Heck, we are yet to finalise a girl as well”, quips Rohan as he continues to get good feelers for his biggest film till date Chandni Chowk To China.
