It’s nearly for three decades now that he has been in the industry and even today his stardom is as big as ever. The name is Sanjay Dutt but the world calls him ‘Baba’. Baba has ruled the silver screen for years. Although he has been through highs and lows in his personal life, he came out as winner. His optimism and spirit to keep going is unbeatable. Ajay Devgan signed for Milan Luthria’s Once Upon A Time In Mumbai

Milan Luthria (who last directed Hattrick) is busy with the pre-production of his next film titled Once Upon A Time In Mumbai. For this film, that deals with the origin of the Mafia scene in Mumbai (during the 70’s& 80’s), Milan has signed Ajay Devgan to play the main lead. Rumors have it that Ajay’s character is loosely based on notorious don Haji Mastan who ruled the crime syndicate in Mumbai during that era.

However, when Bollywood.tv called up Milan, he did confirm having signed Ajay for the film but dispelled any notions of his character being based on Haji Mastan. “Ajay is doing my film Once Upon A Time In Mumbai but it would be wrong to say that his character is based on the notorious gangster Haji Mastan. There is a lot of media speculation going on but there is no truth to it. My film basically talks of how the Mafia came into force for the first time in Mumbai. It’s a fast paced action thriller which depicts the crime scenario in Mumbai during the 70’s and 80’s. We have done research in finding out who were the people who ruled the crime syndicate, how did they operate, what was their code of conduct etc. at that time in Mumbai. But let me make it clear that our film is a totally fictional account and is not based on anybody’s life.”

Remaking a golden hit is dicey business. The comparisons are inevitable. Let’s come to the point right away. Will Himesh Reshammiya live up to the high standards set by Rishi Kapoor in KARZZZZ? Has he portrayed the character of Monty as convincingly as the veteran?

“Let’s not compare Rishi-ji and Himesh,” KARZZZZ director Satish Kaushik tells me, “I guess, the comparisons are inevitable, but no one can match Rishi-ji’s performance in that film. At the same time, I’d like to add that Himesh is superb in KARZZZZ. I am an actor myself. I can judge between good, bad and amateur performances and I have to admit, he has surprised me with his performance.”

‘Kidnap’ versus ‘Drona’

Now here’s one week everyone’s looking forward to. After a string of low-cost and medium-budget fares making a mark in the holy month of Ramzan, let’s get ready to embrace the biggies, starting from this week onwards. All eyes are on KIDNAP and DRONA. For various reasons…

KIDNAP is crucial for director Sanjay Gadhvi as also Imran Khan. Gadhvi makes his first film outside Yash Raj and naturally, people are expecting the moon from Gadhvi’s new outing. Will KIDNAP be as successful as DHOOM and DHOOM 2? KIDNAP is also an acid test for Imran Khan, who has been cast in a role that’s in sharp contrast to the one in JAANE TU… YA JAANE NA. Will it work? Will Imran stand up to a giant like Sanjay Dutt, who has decades of experience behind him?

Rafoo Chakkar - Fun on the Run

The sole purpose of making laughathons is to transport you to ha-ha-land for the next two hours. The last few years has witnessed a barrage of comic fares and brainless comedies exploding on the Hindi screen — some of them genuinely funny, most of them trying so hard to be funny.

Choreographer turned director B.H. Tharun Kumar’s RAFOO CHAKKAR is yet another attempt at making you laugh. On paper, the concept had the potential to tickle your funny bone, but its celluloid translation is a put-off. Sure, you smile at the inane jokes at places, but the second hour falls to abysmal levels.

Hari Puttar - A Comedy of Terrors

Kiddie films, aimed at kids between 6 and 60, are slowly making inroads in Bollywood. HARI PUTTAR - A COMEDY OF TERRORS is the newest entrant in this family.

Now let’s set the record straight. HARI PUTTAR - A COMEDY OF TERRORS is not remotely inspired by HARRY POTTER, but it actually borrows from HOME ALONE. Unfortunately, directors Rajesh Bajaj and Lucky Kohli make a complete mess of what could’ve been a great kiddie fare.
